Student Volunteers

Chair: Maria Elena (Helen) Chávez Echeagaray, ITESM Campus Guadalajara, Mexico, sv@oopsla.acm.org

Overview
Student Volunteers – undergraduate and graduate students volunteer to work about ten hours at OOPSLA and receive complimentary registration, free admission to tutorials (space permitting), and other benefits.

The Student Volunteer program is an opportunity for students from around the world to associate with the top people in object-oriented technology, research, and software development. In return for about ten hours of their time, student volunteers receive complimentary registration, free admission to tutorials (space permitting), and other benefits. A limited number of volunteers may receive some financial support in return for additional volunteer hours. In past years, job assignments included assisting with symposia and panels, checking badges at doors, manning the information booth, helping with traffic flow and general "go-for" assistance to keep the conference running smoothly.

Important Dates
Applications due date: 19 July 2002
Notification of acceptance or rejection: 16 August 2002

Application Process
Electronic submission of applications is required through the Student Volunteer website (http://oopsla.acm.org/~sv). Other submissions will not be accepted.

Application Guidelines
Student volunteers need to be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the conference. Although simultaneous applications to both the Doctoral Symposium and the Student Volunteer program are permitted, a student will lose his Student Volunteer status should he be accepted as a Doctoral Symposium participant. This is to allow as much student participation as possible under OOPSLA sponsorship. Application to the Student Volunteer program does not affect their chances of selection for the Doctoral Symposium, and vice versa. Qualifying students are encouraged to apply to both programs.

For More Information
Interested students should visit the Student Volunteers' information site or contact the Student Volunteers Chair at sv@oopsla.acm.org no later than July 19, 2002.
