An Exciting Opportunity
After its remarkable success in past years, OOPSLA is again hosting the ACM SIGPLAN Student Research Competition. The first round of evaluation will be held jointly with the OOPSLA Poster Session. The Student Research Competition shares the posters' goal of having students meet and interact with researchers so that both sides have the opportunity to learn of ongoing, current research. The Student Research Competition has the additional goal of helping students gain experience with formal presentations and evaluations.
Students wishing to participate in the Student Research Competition must submit a two-page abstract and a poster outline to this track, following the regular Poster Session guidelines. These requirements can be found on the Poster Session Call For Participation page.
Submissions will be reviewed by a committee and about ten students will be chosen to participate in the competition. These students will discuss their work with competition judges (and conference attendees) during the regular Poster Session. The highly interactive Poster Session is used to evaluate the research on its quality, uniqueness, significance of the work, and the clarity of the presentation and the informal discussion. Three semi-finalists chosen from this round of competition will present their research during a conference session. The Student Research Competition winners will be recognized prior to the keynote speaker on the last day of the conference.
Student Research Competition posters are advertised in the Final Program, and authors' two-page extended abstracts will appear in the OOPSLA 2004 Conference Companion, which will be distributed at OOPSLA 2004. Attendees will be able to learn more about individual posters continuously during the whole of the conference.
Important Dates
To be included in the final program and in the Conference Companion, Student Research Competition proposals must be submitted no later than July 2, 2004, but earlier is better. Acceptance and rejection notifications will be e-mailed by August 2, 2004.

These are the same as for the Posters track. All SRC proposals are to be submitted using the OOPSLA 2004 online submission system. Paper and fax submissions will not be accepted.
